Hello San Diego! First of all, thank you to everyone who contributed to our Giving Tuesday social media campaign. Your support is much-needed and greatly appreciated. You can donate to the Worldview Project anytime by clicking the “Donate to the WVP” button above.
By far the biggest event in San Diego this weekend is December Nights at Balboa Park. Of particular note are the performances, food, and drink at the International Cottages, but many cross-cultural institutions and groups will be offering presentations, performances, exhibitions, and activities throughout the park. Other celebrations this weekend include the Italian Cultural Center Natale Party at St. Joseph’s tonight (Friday), Reimagining Refuge: An Evening of Art, Community, and Conversation at the Monarch Center for the Arts (Saturday), the Little Italy Tree Lighting & Christmas Village (also Saturday), and the House of Syria Lawn Program at the International Cottages (Sunday).
There are lots of music and dance events in and around town, including Mireya Ramos at the Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center (two performances tonight), Metalachi at the Holding Company (tonight), Liverpool Legends at the Balboa Theatre (tonight), Puerto Rican singer Yandel at Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre (tonight), the World Ballet Company’s The Nutcracker (Saturday and Sunday), ukulele superstar Jake Shimabukuro at Belly Up on Sunday, and singer-songwriter Natalia Jiménez at the Civic Theatre (Sunday). Next week’s concerts include Ukrainian bandura player Luke Lashchuk Miller at the Del Mar Library (Tuesday), the Blind Boys of Alabama at Belly Up (Tuesday), the Soweto Gospel Choir at the Epstein Family Amphitheater (Wednesday), and the Golden State Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker at the Civic Theatre, beginning next Friday with weekend performances through the 21st.
Special film screenings this week include L’Attachement at the San Diego French American School tonight, Goodbye, Dragon Inn at the Digital Gym next Thursday, and A World Apart (presented by the Italian Film Festival) at La Paloma, also next Thursday.

Lastly, the Worldview Project, which produces this newsletter every week (and does lots of other stuff too!), is a non-profit organization. Supporting cross-cultural awareness, understanding, and engagement has never been more critical than it is now. As you may have noticed, we don't annoy you with advertisements or constant fundraising appeals. But we need your support to continue to do what we do. In particular we are seeking our reader's help in funding the further development of our Cultures in the Classroom™ curriculum project to inspire children to connect with and appreaciate the wonder of cultures around the world. You can show your support by clicking on the "Donate to the WVP" button above and making a tax-deductible donation to the WVP. No donation is too small— even a dollar would be appreciated!
Everyone here at the
San Diego Participant Observer and the
Worldview Project wish you fulfilling, illuminating, and culturally-rich experiences in the days ahead. See you next week!
